Self confidence, anorexia, plastic surgery.
Tumblr is fast increasingly becoming focussed on anorexia and eating disorders & i am completly and utterly baffled by this. I always thought Tumblr was a happy place, to meet people that you could always turn too and ask for help if you needed. But all i see around me constantly is this obsession with weight. I’m not saying curvy is better than thin or than thin is better than curvy, the battle rages on when neither are correct. I know a lot of girls start off wanting to lose weight and then it starts becoming a fixation, because of a compliment about weight loss. You think you need to lose more, you think males find this the most attractive, you think you have control. The worlds sexiest woman voted for by men is a size 14 and she IS absolutely gorgeous. I keep seeing people liking images with girls hip bones sticking out, that isn’t natural, that isn’t beautiful. The reason we have ITSY BITSY models on the catwalk is because catwalk & fashion are a show, its to promote a ‘fantasy’ or the design and garment which the artist has created. This perfect ideology of what is and what isn’t ‘beautiful’ which we have now got, isn’t realistic. I see people saying they aren’t eating, they refuse, they hate their size 2 frame. Size 2… we aren’t suppose to look like that, its not healthy, do you want to die young? Have you read the news? R.I.P Isabelle Caro - the face of anorexia model. 28 years young she died. The other day. Do you want this disease to eat you alive? Because i have no doubt it’s a disease in the sense of how it takes you over, every little bit of your life. Please Please i beg you to talk to me about it, talk to your friends, family if you feel you can. I swear down, you are all so beautiful, do not change for the media. Teenagers have got enough pressure these days, anorexia and bulimia should not be one of them.
I’m going to leave you with some facts i found out during three years of body research… so please think about these::
1 in 4 of us are depressed about their bodies
The average age to start dieting is 8 years old, now.
Less than 5% of people look like what teenagers perceive as ‘PERFECT’
Globally 6.5bn is spent on diet pills per year, twice the entire income of Sierra Leone, the worlds poorest country.
At any one time 1 in 4 of us are on a diet, 95% of these diets fail.
But this doesn’t effect men… right?
1/2 of men feel bad about their bodies
1 in 5 guys in their 20’s have taken supplements to bulk their bodies.
Over the past 5 years the number of men taking steroids has doubled
Top three reasons for taking out a loan…? 1.Home improvements. 2.car 3.cosmetic surgery.
Last year 17 million cosmetic surgery procedures were done. In 2015, this will increase to 55 million. That’s one for every person in the UK.
2/3 PEOPLE ARE UNHAPPY WITH THEIR COSMETIC SURGERY RESULTS.
Playing of your insecurities is big money. But we can stop this, we shouldn’t play along. Every body is unique.
I agree with all of this, except saying that seeing hipbones isn’t natural. On some people, it is. And some people...
